Sheboygan County offers opportunities for the proper disposal of  various household hazardous wastes.  This service is offered several times throughout the year.  There is currently a $10 per vehicle charge at the time of drop off, and identification and registration will be required.  You must be able to show that you are a Sheboygan County resident to take advantage of this program.

Some of items that may be disposed of through this program include solvents, chemicals, paint, varnishes, cleaners, old gasoline, aerosols, acids, radiator fluids, pesticides, poisons, and household batteries.  Click here for additional information and maps showing the drop-off locations.

Contact Sheboygan County to verify when the collection sites are open.

Electronics Recycling
As of September 1, 2010, new State laws require recycling of electronic items.  The Wisconsin DNR has additional information about the new recycling program, called E-Cycle Wisconsin.

The law bans certain electronics from Wisconsin landfills and incinerators, so you may no longer dispose of these items in the regular trash.

The law covers electronics such as computer monitors, computers and printers, laptops, computer perihperals such as mice, speakers, scanners and flash drives.  Other items that must be recycled include fax machines, DVD players, VCR's and TV's.  This law applies no matter who purchased or used the item, so households as well as schools and other users must comply.

Click here for a printable sheet with information about the law and a list of locations that are currently accepting these items to be recycled.  Please note that they may charge a fee for this service.

Fee Items
There are many items that must be recycled and require that a fee be paid.  These items may not be placed curbside, but should be dealt with separately.  Items that must be taken to a proper disposal site and paid for include:
  • Tires
  • Refrigerators or freezers
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Car batteries
  • Some electronic items (see more information above)

Please contact the disposer of your choice, such as Advanced Disposal Services (formerly Veolia Environmental Services) at 920-458-6030, for more information and fees.

Yard & Garden Waste
Grass, yard, and garden wastes can be composted (click here for a link to DNR information on composting) or disposed of in the dumpster at the Public Works garage (1112 Alcott Avenue, Howards Grove).  Please do not bring brush or tree limbs for disposal in the dumpster.  The Village does provide curbside brush chipping and leaf collection (leaf collection in Fall) for our residents.

Please note that grass clippings, weeds, etc. cannot be placed with the leaves set out for collection by the Village.  It can cause difficulties with our Public Works equipment, and is not accepted at our disposal sites.  Employees may refuse your leaves if mixed with other types of foliage.

Holiday Tree Recycling
The Village will recycle non-artificial holiday trees, typically every Tuesday in January.  During the month of January each year, please check the FAQ's on our home page for any updates to the pickup days.

To place your tree for recycling, please remove all decorations from the tree.  The Village will be chipping the trees, so all tinsel, lights and decorations MUST be removed.  Also, do not wrap the tree in plastic.  Place your tree curbside after removing all decorations.  If you use a plastic wrap to help you remove the tree from your home, please remove it before placing it curbside.

Artificial trees or live trees with root balls will not be accepted for recycling.
